On August 25, 2008 Guangdong Scientific and Technical Commendation held a grand meeting in Guangzhou. Wang Yang, Member of Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Secretary of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee, Huang Huahua, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and Governor of Guangdong Province and other department leaders attended the meeting. A total number of eighteen research findings from SYSU were conferred upon the Guangdong Scientific and Technical Prize among which four were first prize: “Physical Structure of Metastable State of Nanometer Material” presided over by Professor Yang Guowei of School of Physics and Engineering, “A Study on the Origin and Evolution of Immune System of Vertebrate” by Professor Xu Anlong of School of Life Science, “Frequency Point Service of Learning Content and Learning Machine Based on the Fusion Technique of 3C” by Luo Xiaonan of School of Information Science and Technology and “ A Series Clinical Study of Liver Transplantation of Severe Hepatitis” by Professor Chen Guihua of the Third Affiliated Hospital. In addition, SYSU six research findings results received the second prize and eight findings received the third prize.

The meeting awarded Guangdong Outstanding Scientific and Technical Contribution Prize to Academician Zhong Shenzhen ; and it awarded one special prize, twenty-seven first prizes, eighty second prizes and one hundred and seventy-one third prizes of 2008 Guangdong Scientific and Technical Prize.
