SYSU academician Chen Xiaoming and Jieyang Municipal Government choose Guangdong Greatoo Molds Inc as a R&D base and jointly set up the "Chemical Materials and Technology Academician Work Station of Guangdong Greatoo Molds Inc”. The unveiling and signing ceremony of the station was held recently. Zeng Ruiru, Deputy Mayor of Jieyang City; Professor Xia Lianghui, Assistant President of SYSU; Wu Chaozhong, Chairman of the Board of Guangdong Greatoo Molds Inc; Academician Chen Xiaoming, Dean Mao Zongwan, Professor Lü Shushen and Associate Professor Cui Guofeng of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Sun Yat-sen University; Wu Yanhai, Vice Dean of Faculty of Civil and Transportation Engineering, Guangdong University of Technology; relevant persons in charge from Jieyang City; leaders and technicians from Guangdong Greatoo Molds Inc; a total of over 100 people attended the ceremony. The ceremony was hosted by Wang Hui, Director of the Science and Technology Bureau of Jieyang City.
Academician Chen Xiaoming has great attainments in the field of basic chemistry. His research team has made excellent scientific achievements in relevant fields. Guangdong Greatoo Molds Inc is a key high-tech enterprise of national level and one of the major drafters of national industry standards. It has a nationally recognized enterprise technology center and R&D institutes including a postdoctoral work station and a provincial tyre mold R&D center. Guangdong Greatoo Molds Inc hopes that the wisdom and knowledge of SYSU research team will help stimulate the company’s technological progress and improve the quality of its products. The two sides took the opportunity to establish the Chemical Materials and Technology Academician Work Station of Guangdong Greatoo Molds Inc under the state policy of encouraging the industry-university-research alliance. The Academician Work Station adopts an operating system where the station is pushed forward by the government, participated by academicians, managed by enterprises and driven by market force. It is a high-level innovation platform intended for collaborations in scientific and technological research, oriented by the company’s need for innovation, centered around the academician and expert team and supported by the company’s R&D institutes. The establishment of the station will help bring academicians and experts into full play in the development of major projects, the cultivation of high-level talents as well as science and technology collaborations and exchanges, improve the company’s technological innovation ability and accelerate local economic growth in the field of chemical materials and technology.

Both sides said that the deepest sincerity and a maximum input are needed to ensure effective operation of the work station and logistic support for people working at the station. The CPC Jieyang Municipal Committee, Jieyang Municipal Government, Sun Yat-sen University and the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering all promised to offer strong support for the establishment of the academician work station. Zeng Ruiru, Deputy Mayor of Jieyang City; Liu Jianzhong, Deputy Director of the Organization Department of the CPC Jieyang Municipal Committee; Wu Chaozhong, Chairman of the Board of Guangdong Greatoo Molds Inc; Xia Lianghui, Assistant President of SYSU; Academician Chen Xiaoming; and Mao Zongwan, Dean of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering jointly unveiled the work station, indicating the formal establishment of the Chemical Materials and Technology Academician Work Station of Guangdong Greatoo Molds Inc.

Assistant President Xia Lianghui extended congratulations on the establishment of the work station on behalf of SYSU and expressed good wishes for further collaborations between both sides.

Academician Chen Xiaoming recalled that he used to work outside his hometown all year round and had never got the opportunity to make contributions to it. He felt relieved at being able to do his bit toward the development of his hometown through jointly setting up the academician work station with Guangdong Greatoo Molds Inc. Academician Chen said that he would make every effort to do practical work and make contributions.

Mao Zongwan, Dean of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, introduced the preliminary research plan, elaborated on the implementation plan of three research projects, and said that he felt confident in further collaborations between the two sides.

Relevant collaborative agreements were signed by SYSU and Guangdong Greatoo Molds Inc during the ceremony. After the ceremony, Chen Dong, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Jieyang Municipal Committee and Mayor of Jieyang City, met with Academician Chen Xiaoming.
