On December 26, the Final of 2014 SYSU Young Teachers Teaching Contest was held in Swasey Hall on South Campus. 5 first prize winners, 9 second prize winners, 9 excellence prize winners and 4 best organizers were commended (The list of winners is attached bellow). Professor Chen Chunsheng, Executive Deputy Secretary and Vice President of SYSU, presented the awards to the winners. Professor Cheng Huanwen, Director of SYSU Libraries, acted as head of the expert judging panel.

Professor Chen Chunsheng congratulated the winners and pointed out that SYSU Young Teachers Teaching Contest has become a good tradition of undergraduate education and produced a good effect in developing the teaching skills of young faculty members.

Professor Cheng Huanwen said that the young teachers demonstrated good attitude and high teaching skills, and the application of modern educational technology will help improve classroom teaching. Professor Zhang Yan, Associate Professor Gu Nanyong and Professor Wu Zhongdao also gave their comments.

The teaching contest, cosponsored by University Dean’s Office, Dean’s Office of Medical Education Affairs, and Equipment & Lab Management Office, included preliminary, semi-final and final rounds. After the preliminary round within schools (departments), over 60 contestants entered the semi-final and competed in four groups: humanities, science and engineering; medical sciences; all-English; and laboratory courses. 23 contestants advanced to the final. The contest consisted of lesson plan and teaching demonstration.
